“I want to cut the crap, and make something honestly and transparently.
We are constantly surrounded by (literally) unbelievably beautiful images, and we measure ourselves against them, even though most of what we see is curated, exaggerated, or entirely fabricated.
In a time when AI is making it impossible to know what is real and not, these paintings become especially important, as the process of creating original art worth contemplating is reserved for humans alone.
Each painting I create is an expression of a life well lived. Countless layers make up a history of brave attempts and failures, of aspirations and fears, of lost hope and found resilience.
Because that’s what life is. Resilience.
Not giving in, not giving up before the piece of art is complete.
The struggle is exactly what makes life, and art, beautiful. All those layers of mess, disappointments and ugly crying, is what makes it real, not in spite of our failures but because of them. We learn, we grow, we grow closer. We try again, we get up and keep going.
The process these paintings go through is one of intuition and brutal honesty. They are proof of a frustrating and ugly journey, full of doubt and second guessing. Yet through the mess and hopelessness, through not giving up, something beautiful emerges that would never have taken place if everything had gone perfectly smooth. So instead of covering up the mess and pretending it didn’t happen, I choose to reveal it, to keep it exposed and incorporate into something unique. Each layer of imperfection becomes essential to the final piece. The vibrante colors and expressive brushstrokes, often hinting at something alive and growing, is a conscious statement and reminder to be proud and loud and alive. It speaks of resilience. Just like the flowers coming back to life after a long winter, these paintings refuse to be modest.
We don’t have to hide, to be ashamed, to pretend everything is perfect. It’s not. But through our vulnerabilities, we find true beauty, and real life. “

Rebekka is a Norwegian artist, based in Oslo. Her work has been displayed in several cities in Norway, and has collectors all over the world. She graduated Graphic Design and Illustration in Hawaii, but her transition from figurative and illustrative work to abstract expression was born out of a need to create something to that would let the mind wander.
In a time when every piece of information is at our fingertips, she started feeling overwhelmed by the constant overload of information and facts, and started craving something that lets you breathe, dream, imagine and get curious. Her artwork invites you to pause, contemplate, and let the colors and shapes move you without having to tell you something.
